The Fiction Magazine Vol. 3 No. 1 (Spring 1984)
London, England: The Fiction Magazine Ltd., 1984. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This number of the British literary magazine edited by Judy Cooke features "Scream When You Burn," a story by Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), the cult-favorite lowdown-&-dirty unfiltered American poet & prose writer (pgs. 7-10). This exemplary story features an illustration of a Bukowski-like figure with drink in hand looking out the window of his struggling writer's pad by Paul Cox above title. Also in this issue are further contributions of fiction by Joan Alexander ("The Brides of Gregory Doe"), Tobias Wolff ("Soldier's Joy") & many more; an essay by John Welch on the "Best Novels of Our Time" as decided by the Book Marketing Council (of which Welch was chairman of a panel of judges); many reviews with an emphasis on crime fiction; vintage & contemporary images & ads etc. A very rare & important issue in this distinguished series, especially for the Bukowski collector. In fine condition with mild-to-moderate rubbing, scratching & short, faint creasing to front, back covers & stapled spine; mild wear & some tiny bumps, creases at thin edges & corners of same; moderate browning & rubbing to edges of text block.
