Jack Kerouac's Last Night in Northport

Coventry, England: The Beat Scene Press, 2012. Limited First Edition Thus. Stapled Wrappers. "Early in 1995 three old friends reconvened in a small American East Coast town...Northport (Massachusetts), to listen to a recording made way back in 1964 when they were saying bon voyage to a good pal of theirs. Artist Stanley Twardowicz, his wife Ann, together with Larry Smith and his wife Tsuneko, had gathered to wish the writer Jack Kerouac a safe journey to his new home in Florida. Larry Smith had the presence of mind to audiotape the gathering...Now the survivors were gathered together again with writer Pat Fenton. The quartet listened once more to Larry Smith's tape recording and tried to recall that time with Jack Kerouac. Here is Pat Fenton's account of that reunion and the reflections of Jack Kerouac's old friends." (from introduction, unpaginated) A fascinating Kerouac-related essay which "...originally appeared in the American journal Newsday on Monday, February 20, 1995" (from colophon-limitation page), & including Fenton's thoughtful postscript written for this edition. Re-issued in a limited edition of 125 during June 2012 as No. 35 in the Beat Scene Press Pocket Book Series published by Kevin Ring in the UK, this is hand-numbered copy No. 87/125. With illustration of a brooding Kerouac in profile by Adam McDade reproduced on front cover. A beautiful chapbook production in this most collectible series; a very important rarity relating to the Founding Father of the Beat Generation. In very fine condition, substantially as-new with only a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & stapled spine. Very Fine. [Item #4275]
