Nashua, NH: Transition Publishing, 1999. First Edition. Softcover. Signed by Stephen Edington. "A fascinating journey back to Jack Kerouac's roots. Author Stephen Edington has undertaken an exhaustive research into the origins of the Kerouac family, unearthing a vast quantity of previously unknown information and relating his findings to Kerouac's own writings. The result makes absorbing reading and will be of immense interest and value to all students and admirers of Kerouac's work." (Dave Moore, quoted on back cover) An indeed fascinating literary & biographical study by Stephen Edington, a minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua, New Hampshire. As Edington notes in his introduction, he delivered a sermon to his congregation during 1992 about the religious aspects of Jack Kerouac's writings, during which he "...mentioned, more or less in passing," (pg. 3) the fact that Kerouac's parents, Leo & Gabrielle, had met & married in Nashua before moving to Lowell, Massachusetts where Kerouac was born, raised & to which he would return himself & in his works as the seat of the "Duluoz Legend." Edington dug ever further & discovered very deep roots of the Kerouac family in Nashua. With many photographs of places in Nashua, Quebec & Lowell that were relevant to Kerouac, his parents & ancestors. Dave Moore, quoted above, is the founding editor of the now-collectible Kerouac newsletter series The Kerouac Connection. Trade-format softcover original, first edition as stated on copyright page. On the title page (just below an image of the grave marker for Kerouac's parents, brother & daughter in Nashua), Edington has hand-written his signature ("Stephen D. Edington"). A rewarding work of Kerouac scholarship, most collectible with the author's signature. In very fine condition with only a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; sticker of The Beat Museum in Monterey, CA affixed over barcode near lower right corner of back cover. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4284]
