Statement for Peter Lembcke Gallery Exhibition

San Francisco, CA: Vojo Skyline Press / Peter Lembcke Gallery, 1991. Limited Lettered First Printing. Single Sheet. "The paintings can't be explained. The best of them have a certain mystery about them that can't be explained... It is a mysterious process, painting. The figures, the creatures, the face appear 'out of nowhere,' so to speak, messengers or harbingers from some other place or time... I only know they exist in their own world and time, and I only the means of their articulation." (Lawrence Ferlinghetti, from "Statement..."). A broadside of remarks from the late great Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1919-2021), poet-publisher-visionary behind the helm of City Lights Books from its inception in 1953 to his recent passing in 2021. Ferlinghetti delighted in painting his entire life, wrote much about the great painters of the past and referenced them continually in his poetry. This broadside, offset printed on thick yellow card-stock paper, measures 8-1/2 x 11" and reproduces Ferlinghetti's handwriting and holograph signature with boldness and clarity. One of 25 numbered copies, this is "Copy B" (2/26) out of 26 lettered copies. In very fine condition, virtually as new/as issued by publisher. Very Fine. [Item #4367]
