New York, NY; Washington, D.C. Robert F. Kennedy for U.S. Senator; Kennedy for President, 1964; 1968. Stapled Pamphlet; Single Sheets. "Young Americans have made this year's election a test of faith. They have taken the deepest beliefs of our country at face value: individual freedom, commitment to social justice, willingness to examine old ideas and choose new ones. This faith- and the energy behind it- has turned this election into a confrontation of issues and ideas." (first paragraph of "Why Your Help is Vital," Presidential Campaign Flyer (1), verso) Two vintage relics of the Senatorial & Presidential campaigns of Robert F. Kennedy (1925-1968), brother & fellow martyr of President John F. Kennedy: (1) Large pamphlet (8&1/2" x 11"), four stapled leaves, eight sides including covers, 1964. Entitled "Let's Put Bob Kennedy to Work for New York," this pamphlet was produced & distributed by RFK's campaign for Democratic U.S. Senator for New York State. The campaign took place less than a year following the traumatic assassination of RFK's brother, JFK, for whom RFK was the U.S. Attorney General. His career & accomplishments as AG during his brother's administration & for a short time after under President Lyndon B. Johnson are strongly promoted, with many moving photographs. The campaign was successful, & it was as a U.S. Senator that RFK ran for the Presidency in 1968. (2) Presidential Campaign Flyer, single sheet printed on recto & verso, (8&1/2" x 11"). With photograph detail of RFK shaking hands with adoring youthful Americans on entire surface of recto with quote "The youth of our nation are the clearest mirror of our performance" & "Kennedy" in bold blue lettering; two columns of text (see quote above) below image of RFK in silhouette from behind facing a large crowd. As we know, RFK's promising Presidential campaign ended abruptly & tragically with his assassination on June 5, 1968. Two historic testaments to the hope & legacy of the great Robert F. Kennedy- will we ever be presented with any candidates who truly carry on that Kennedy legacy of far-sighted leadership & unity? Would we even recognize them? (1) in fine condition on glossy paper stock with only mild rubbing, light marginal browning & extensive but light, mostly faint creasing to all leaves; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. (2) both copies fine on matte paper stock with only very light rubbing, a moderate amount of light, mostly faint creasing to rectos & versos; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners. Fine. [Item #4368]
