Los Angeles, CA: Floyd Clymer, 1949; 1950. Numbered First Editions, First Printing, Later Printings. Softcovers. The first six contiguous volumes of the Historical Motor Scrapbook series by Floyd Clymer (1895-1970), a pioneering authority, racer & builder of cars & especially motorcycles; & an indefatigably enterprising publisher-entrepreneur: (1) Floyd Clymer's Historical Motor Scrapbook, first edition as stated on front cover & spine (Vol. 1). First published in March 1944, this is the eleventh printing of December 1949 as listed below index (pg. 3). On front cover near upper left corner is a window with "This Book Is Copy/ No. (stamped) 155765," indicating that this was a numbered & therefore likely limited edition, Although we have found no reference to any ultimate limitation here or below. Trade-format softcover in rough-textured wrappers with sewn binding (as with all subsequent volumes below). We have seen references to hardcover editions of this & the other volumes. With Clymer's introduction & some commentary preceding motorcycle section, the scrapbook mostly consists of facsimile contemporary ads & articles about then-already historic automobiles & motorcycles, with many images & illustrations. (2) ...Scrapbook Number 2, first published in October 1944, this is the sixth printing of January 1950 as listed below Clymer's dedication of this volume to his late father (pg. 2). Near bottom of front cover is this statement: "This Book Is Copy No. (stamped) 164407." Same type of contents as (1) & below, with new material on "250 Ancient Cars/ and Motorcycles/ Illustrated- Described/ With Interesting Photos/ Ads...Specifications/ Historical- Amusing!" (front cover, a barker-boast repeated & justified as here in further issues). (3)...Scrapbook Number 3, first published in January 1946, this is the fourth printing of March 1950 as listed on dedication/ title page (pg. 1). Of particular interest is Clymer's stirring dedication "...to the men and women who did so much to bring World War II to a glorious and complete victory for the United States and our allies..." on the title page of this volume, the first to be originally published after the end of the Second World War. (4) ...Scrapbook No. 4, first published in August 1947, this is the third printing of March 1950 as listed below index (pg. 3). Near bottom of front cover is printed/stamped: "This Book/ Is Copy No. 174878." With dedication to the late William C. Durant (1861-1947), founder of General Motors Corporation (pg. 1).
