The Kerouac Connection No. 15 (Spring 1988)

Bristol, England: The Kerouac Connection, 1988. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This vintage number of the UK literary journal of the Beat Generation & especially Jack Kerouac, edited by David Moore, is entirely devoted to works concerning John Clellon Holmes (1926-1988), one of Kerouac's closest friends & associates, depicted in On the Road (as "Tom Saybrook") & several other Kerouac classics. Holmes' novel GO (1952, see item No.s 3326, 3412) is considered the earliest published reference to the Beat Generation. With contributions by such luminaries as Ann Charters (earliest Kerouac biographer & bibliographer), Beat Founding Father Allen Ginsberg, the great Beat-&-Beyond authority-biographer Barry Miles & many more, including two of our good friends & colleagues at the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu): Gregory Stephenson & Jaap van der Bent. Charters, we should note, attended & gave the Keynote Lecture at a recent EBSN Conference. Also in this issue are two poems by Holmes himself, dedicated to & about Jean Genet & Billie Holiday; transcript of a letter written by Kerouac to Holmes dated March 7, 1951; a key to characters' real-life references in Holmes' novels; & a brief bibliography of his works. With notes on contributors, letters, reviews & a "News" section on back cover with then-latest Beat-related developments. Holmes passed away on March 30, 1988, very shortly after this publication. A very important issue in this highly collectible series, especially for Holmes scholar-devotees. In very fine condition with only a touch of rubbing & a few tiny spots to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny spots, faint creases at thin edges & corners of same; staples in process of rusting with minimal exterior & interior bleeding; very slight rubbing & spotting to upper & side edges of text block. Interior very fine with only minimal rust-bleeding noted above; miniscule bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #4388]
