ISBN: (ISSN)09542965
Bristol, England: The Kerouac Connection, 1990. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This vintage number of the UK literary journal of the Beat Generation & especially Jack Kerouac, edited & with contributions by David Moore, features Kerouac's poem "Old Western Movies," transcribed from the recording session for the 1959 album "Blues & Haikus" by Moore; along with Moore's article on "Jack & Neal on disc," "A complete (?) list of recordings which relate to Jack Kerouac and/or Neal Cassady," from Dizzy Gillespie's "Kerouac" of 1941 through The Washington Squares' "Neal Cassady" of 1989. Also in this issue are essays by Jim Burns (focusing on the character "Nick Spain" in The Subterraneans); Kerouac's friend John Montgomery (on "Alex Fairbrother" in Desolation Angels); a memorial tribute to Beat journalist Seymour Krim, who had recently passed away, by Gerald Nicosia, premier Kerouac critical biographer & our distinguished colleague at the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu); & others. With letters, reviews, notes on contributors, & a single loose sheet included in this issue (dated May 1990 & printed on recto only) with a list of collectible Beat-related books & ephemera for sale ("One copy of each! First come, first served!"). Chapbook-format booklet in stapled wrappers. Interestingly, in his commentary on copyright-contents page (inner front cover), Moore begins by stating that "Sadly, it seems that this will be the final issue of KC." Moore did not throw in the towel just yet, though, so stay tuned for subsequent numbers. Another very rich & significant issue in this highly collectible series. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing, browning & fading to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; staples beginning to rust with miniscule interior bleeding. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps, very small creases to mostly upper corners of a few page leaves; bit of staple-rust noted above. Ephemera sheet very fine with only light browning to blank margins; very slight wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners. Very Fine. [Item #4425]
