Broadside: "Two Poems from John Wolff's Book Complaints from the West-River Country"

Madison, WI: Landlocked Press, 1985. First Edition. Single Folded Sheet. A broadside (appx. 5" x 10&1/2" folded, 25" x 10&1/2" unfolded) folded vertically into five panels/ ten sides printed on five panels/ recto only, with two poems by John Wolff, a Michigan poet & academician who is also a Zen Sensei (priest). The first poem, "On the Photo "Wild Bill Hickock at Deadwood", " is preceded by a quote from an 1880 letter by the western legend "Calamity Jane" to "Wild Bill" Hickock's offspring. The second poem, "Denver Union Station," is a musing on the Depression-era dust-bowl America of the 1930s. A beautiful letterpress production on light-brown handmade paper, with only this scarce copyright/ colophon statement: "Copyrighted to John Wolff on July 4, 1985 in Madison, WI." No limitation reference. A haunting & desirable Wolff collectible. In very fine condition, folded as noted above, with only several short, faint creases at mostly blank upper margins/ edges; one short, faint crease-line at lower left edge & margin; lower & side edges slightly irregular as issued. Very Fine. [Item #4435]
