William S. Burroughs/Cut (The Future of the Past, Vol. 2)

Cologne, Germany: Walther Konig, 2013. First Edition. Softcover. (Schottlaender H25., pg. 147). A co-production of friend of Third Mind Books, the seemingly indefatigable Ian MacFadyen and German visual artist-&-professor Axel Heil, "William S. Burroughs/Cut" (also "spelled" / "typed" as "William S. Burroughs: Cut") is a self-styled classic of Burroughs scholarship, a full-color buffet of Burroughsiana replete with high-quality reproductions of photographs, manuscripts, artworks and more. Every inclusion is purposeful: all 'of, by, or related to' either WSB or the panoply of associates integrally related to his life and work. Interspersed with these are text by Heil ("Slash with a Knife"; pgs. 3-33) & MacFadyen ("Codename Burroughs"; pg. 34-105). The third section, "Places, Works and Collaborations" provides a "Best Of" survey of Burroughs' storied Beat-&-Beyond life, and is followed by French associate to the Beats, Jean-Jacques Lebel's interview with Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Jean Pierre Faye and Alain Paccadis. The fourth section contains a more pronounced chronology than is present in section three, and closes out with credits and a selected bibliography. Softcover original, a First Edition—the second in this series by Heil & MacFadyen. From the collection of Brian Schottlaender, author of "Anything But Routine," the most complete & up-to-date bibliography of WSB now in its fourth ever-expanding online edition. We always consult our good friend Brian's ABR for all our WSB-related rarities, as above. In perfect Cut-Up coincidence, Schottlaender used (and left inside the book) an airline boarding pass from Dunhuang Mogao International Airport in China as a bookmark. As of this writing (October 2021) the world is still struggling to sweep the Wuhan, China-originated Covid-19 Pandemic into the dustbins of history. If only WSB was here to loiter and wade outside the Wuhan Institute of Virology with his tape recorder and curse it out of existence! Book in near fine condition with only moderate-to-pronounced shelf-wear to fine-edges and corners of front, back covers; light vertical crease along/near leftmost fine-edge of front cover, no doubt from a thorough reading of the text, though pages are clean and without highlighting or notation of any sort; tiny bump to top left-hand corner of back cover; minor scattered rubbing to front, back covers. Fine. [Item #4702]
