ISBN: 9780871404244
New York, NY: Liveright Publishing Corporation, 2013. First Edition. Hardcover. "Narrating over thirty centuries of "unconventional" military conflicts, best-selling author and military historian Max Boot has created a work that traces guerrilla warfare and terrorism from antiquity to the present. Challenging the conventional wisdom that irregular warfare is the historical exception, Boot demonstrates that loosely organized partisan or guerrilla warfare is the norm, and that it is the clash of conventional, uniformed military forces that is the historical anomaly." (from front flap) A sweeping study of the phenomenon of Guerrilla warfare from ancient to contemporary times by Max Boot, the acclaimed Russian-Jewish-American military historian, consultant & prolific author. Among the distinguished figures commenting about this work on dust jacket back cover is the Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer John Meacham, who writes: "With precision and a quiet passion, Max Boot has written a landmark book about a perennial and important challenge: Guerrilla warfare. A scholar with a great gift for storytelling, Boot takes us on a grand and vivid tour of millennia of a kind of conflict that confronts us even now."
