ISBN: 0030719798
New York, NY: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Kent Haruf. "In the tradition of Willa Cather's finest writing about our Western (USA) lands and people, The Tie That Binds rings with the authority and passionate voice of an American classic. Set in the spare country of Colorado's high plains, Kent Haruf's stunning story explodes with the force and directness of Greek tragedy. It introduces Edith Goodnough, a valiant woman of enduring purpose, who is caught by circumstances and duty in a situation the reader will find almost unbearable." (from front flap) The debut novel by Kent Haruf (1943-2014), the critically acclaimed, popular & award-winning novelist. A compelling, evocative, quintessentially American historic-fictional saga of the extreme difficulties encountered by pioneering Western homesteaders during the late nineteenth-early 20th century, focusing on the heroine Edith Goodnough. Hardcover in unclipped first-issue dust jacket (with $13.95 price & "1084" printed on front flap), first edition as stated on copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon.
