This vintage number of the Beat Generation magazine published by Kevin Ring in the UK features a special central section in tribute to William S. Burroughs upon his death on August 2, 1997. This stirring & deeply reflective section in honor of the Greatest figure of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond (& the presiding Icon of our very enterprise) consists of memorial essays by Todd Bauer, Douglas Brinkley & foremost Beat scholar John Tytell; & two interviews with WSB- conducted by Lee Ranaldo in April 1997 (surely among the last), & by the legendary Anne Waldman with John Oughton in August 1978. In the issue proper are further WSB memorial essays by Ring & Waldman; a celebration of the fortieth anniversary of the first publication of Jack Kerouac's Beat classic On the Road (1957-1997) including articles by the ebullient musician David Amram, Joyce Johnson, Waldman, Joy Walsh & others, along with quotes from OTR & Some of the Dharma by Kerouac himself; an interview of Hettie Jones (editor-publisher of the seminal Beat journal Yugen & former wife of LeRoi Jones before he became Amiri Baraka) conducted by Ring; & another of Gerald Locklin (the hard-living American author & Charles Bukowski biographer) conducted by Jules Smith. As ever with contemporary news, reviews & many historic images throughout. An especially important, rich & rewarding issue (especially for WSB devotees like us) in this indispensable series that always brings to life its front cover motto: "This is the Beat Generation." In relatively good-to-near-fine condition with moderate rubbing, scratching, & some faint creasing to front, back covers & stapled spine; mild wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; small area of thin, light notation in ink at blank red area of front cover to the right of upper-largest image of WSB's face; small notation-impressions near same; staples in process of rusting with miniscule interior bleeding.
