Love Love: 2019-2022 (The “Paperback NYC Special”)

New York, NY: Love Love Magazine, 2022. Softcover. “Ann, in a shadow big as Africa, / rolling a black tobacco joint, / she flips her wedding ring into the bin, / drumrolls the chopping board, grates spring onion / into wild boar, porcini dowsed / with garlic and coriander. / He drinks only gin smash, vituperative / on rocky beer, leaves her in a corner / working out her anger like geometry / at how he writes, as though he couldn’t care, / his line so fluent, its autonomy / is given him…” (from “Shakespeare’s Wife” by Jeremy Reed). It's not that I expected this true-to-form little magazine to be bad, by any means—it’s just…well, I didn’t expect it to be this good! According to its website, Love Love magazine is “An artistic Love commune in paper form joining together textual and visual artists around the world for a creative explosion of new expression in poetry, photography, drawing, collage art, music and motion pictures.” This issue is comprised of works taken “from the first five issues of the underground print publication,” and thus essentially constitutes an anthology. “Love Love” proceeds under the guiding “inspirational mentorship” of Gerard Malanga, who the curious and discerning Beat-&-Beyonder can find well-represented in our inventory, here (https://rb.gy/cwpzzb). Anyone who knows anything about Gerard will be aware of his long and storied involvement in the 1960s counterculture, especially during its robust formation and dawning during that decade’s earliest period. The issue here offered also features contributions by old Beat-&-Beyond stalwarts like artist-poet-translator, Mary Beach; Legendary Literary Outlaw, Charles Plymell; Beat artist, Bob Branaman; Visionary Guitar-Wizard, Thurston Moore; one of my favorites, the up-&-coming UK singer-songwriter, Tess Parks; her fellow esteemed songwriter, Sharon Van Etten; Beat Legends like Anne Waldman, Tuli Kupferberg, A.D. Winans and much, much more. Small-format, “postcard-size” softcover; one of a limited edition of 200 copies published by Lisa Marie Jarlborn, Creative Director, Graphic Artist, Poet, Editor & Founder of Love Love Magazine. In very fine condition, virtually as new with only slightest shelf-wear to fine-edges & corners; minute exhibits of bumping, chipping to same. Very Fine. [Item #5068]
