Original Collage Artwork by Claude Pelieu (Untitled)

New York, NY: Claude Pelieu, 1999. Original Collage Artwork. Single Sheet. An original, untitled 1999 collage artwork (appx. 14" x 11") by Claude Pelieu (1934-2002), an acclaimed French artist & writer who along with his wife Mary Beach (1919-2006) was at the Paris-based center of cutting-edge cut-up writing & collage art. He was also the stepfather of Pamela Beach Plymell & therefore the stepfather-in-law of Charles Plymell, Legendary Literary Outlaws Extraordinaire (& our dear friends) from whose collection we obtained this. The Beach-Pelieus intersected (or should we say "interzoned"?) & collaborated with the Plymells, William S. Burroughs (who was of course their cut-up mentor & inspiration) & many others. In this work, Pelieu has created a processional image of mostly vertical fragments from Super-Hero Comics- a themed visual cut-up. On verso, below a stamp of his name, Pelieu has hand-written in thick blue-turqoise ink: "(signed) Claude Pelieu/ 99 N.Y." The outstanding provenance of all Third Mind Books' many Beach, Pelieu & Plymell offerings makes us The Source for collectibles relating to this nonconformist trinity of Bastard Angels (as their friend the great Harold Norse would put it). A unique & original avant-garde artwork with most distinguished associations & provenance. In very fine condition with only a bit of rubbing, faint scratching to blank white background of recto collage; a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; thin (appx. 1/4") lines of clear tape across all sides & corners of verso; one line of brown paper beneath tape at upper edge of same with "TCP 52" hand-written in thick pink ink at left area of over-tape (the two latter points completely invisible at recto). Very Fine. [Item #5080]
