Some Mothers' Sons

Cherry Valley, NY: Cherry Valley Editions, 2004. First Edition. Softcover. Poet…publisher…author...thorn in the ass of the Grant-Getting Professoriate. There's a legion of descriptors one can use when talking about Charles Plymell, but perhaps the most apt one is “legendary literary outlaw.” Plymell is a staple in American outrider literature, and remains to this day a poet whose body of work deserves to be laboriously and lovingly dissected by Literature professors everywhere. “Some Mothers’ Sons” is, in essence, a love letter from Plymell to his friends and fellow writers (including Allen Ginsberg, Founder’s Founder of the Beat Generation, William S. Burroughs, and even his father, Fred Plymell). Filled with beautiful anecdotes and poems about the people dear to him throughout his life, Some Mothers’ Sons is replete with photos from every era of his life; functionally, this works to give readers a more in-depth and personal look into Charlie’s wild life than might otherwise be possible. Any Plymell fan (or Beat obsessive) would be loath to go without Some Mothers’ Sons on their shelves. Trade-format softcover; the First Edition of this unusually warm Plymell title. This particular copy is signed by the poet (in black pen ink) on the title page beneath his printed name. Signature reads: “Charles Plymell.” Book is in very fine condition with only the slightest smudging to front and back covers, else substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #5083]
