Jack Kerouac Meets William S. Burroughs on the Road
Coventry, England: Beat Scene Press, 2022. Limited First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. "In the very middle of his novel On the Road, Jack Kerouac recounts a visit with William S. Burroughs. While perhaps somewhat inconsequential to the casual Kerouac reader, this episode is significant because it provides vital insight into the derivation of Burroughs' particular style and substance as will unfold in future works. It is a quintessential example of the inception, through literature, of legend and myth from the personal experiences of a small group of people outside the mainstream of American society." (first paragraph, unpaginated) Thus begins Yours Truly's learned (if I may say so myself), highly footnoted essay, first written in the early 1990s & available only on our site until now, in this beautiful limited edition production by Kevin Ring's Beat Scene Press in the UK. No. 75 in the BSP Pocket Book series, chapbook in stapled wrappers with flaps. Including vintage images on front cover & interior of WSB, Kerouac & the ill-fated Joan Vollmer Burroughs carrying their also ill-fated son Billy. One of an edition of 125 copies published during May 2022 per colophon, this is copy No. 5/125. Statement preceding colophon (see image) erroneously mentions that this essay "...first appeared as part of an early book catalog," but also mentions our "...real brick and mortar bookshop" which we indeed opened on June 4, 2022. Thank you, Kevin, for noting this & for including my essay in your outstanding limited chapbook series of instant collectibles! Please be sure to explore our site & store for many more in this series, the indispensable Beat Scene magazine, & other BSP productions which more-than-justify Kevin's motto: "This is the Beat Generation." In very fine, as-new condition with only one faint horizontal crease at upper area of blank rear flap; otherwise substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #5134]
