Here we have a delectable collectible of the first order: approachable, alluring, and containing no less than five bona-fide champions of the San Francisco Renaissance. Volume 1, No. 2 of the San Francisco Review may have flown under the radar, but it comes “ready to play,” to put it mildly. Perhaps the most unique aspect of this issue of the San Francisco Review is the nontraditional nature of the contributions of the giants which people its pages. For example, when was the last time you saw Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s “Museum of Objects Depicting the History of My Race” in a literary journal as the featured Ferlinghetti contribution? This is the only instance! Other SFR giants featured here (with equally irregular contributions, I might add) include Richard Brautigan (“Psalm”); Gay literary pioneer, James Broughton (“The Last Word”); legendary Armenian-American novelist, William Saroyan (“Drawing”) & original Dharma Bum, Gary Snyder (“The Late Snow, & Lumber Strike of the Summer of Fifty-Four”). Trade Softcover-format literary journal: the First [and only] Printing of this time capsule from a San Francisco accessible now only in the history books (and in publications like this!). In strong near fine condition with only moderate shelf-wear, bumping, minute chipping, creasing to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; a few scattered nicks & what appear to be flecks of pen ink to same; faint remnant of what appears to be residue from an ancient sticker (which has thankfully since lost its stickiness) at bottom right-hand corner of back cover.
