Blow No. 6 (Featuring Charles Bukowski)

Portland, OR: Grey Whale Press, 1984. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. "They are closing the auto plants / out here in California / but a local company is promising / employment to laid-off workers / who will transfer to an Oklahoma / plant / travel expenses / paid. / so now many of the families are / making the trek / in long caravans of cars / full of children and / possessions / just as in the 30's / their elders had come here / from Oklahoma / in the same way / now they're going back / to Oklahoma / with California accents" ("fall out," pg. 1). From the sui generis swami of smut, Charles Bukowski (1920-1994) we have "Blow 6," an evasive Bukowski rarity from the mid-1980s. Edited & published by Karol & Michael Kleinheksel, who published the literary journal, "Blow: A Magazine of Modern Writing" for 9 years--releasing, in total, ten issues over a 9-year period. "Blow 6" contains 9 Bukowski poems ([1] "fall out"; [2] "a patriot of life"; [3] "I fall into it without trying..."; [4] "a hot sweaty day in August"; [5] "not to worry"; [6] "my critics are sometimes right"; [7] "with a flagpole over the San Pedro Harbor"; [8] "reject"; & [9]. "bad action." Chapbook in stapled wrappers; the first and only printing of this (wildly illusive) Bukowski-featuring literary periodical. Chapbook in strong fine condition with only minor-to-moderate shelf-wear, rubbing, bumping, a few tiny exhibits of creasing to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine. Interior impressively unblemished with only minute-to-moderate rusting, slight bleeding to staples at center (interior & exterior). Fine. [Item #5244]
