Luminous Dreams

Gran Canaria, Spain: Zasterle Press, 1997. First Edition. Softcover in Stiff Wrappers. Addressing, now the Ginsbergians, Your Devoted Curators here at Third Mind Books dutifully proffer the following: “Luminous Dreams,” — a collection short prose works by the indefatigable Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997). Compiled & released by Spain’s Zasterle Press in the months immediately following the poet’s planetary denouement (in April 1997), “Luminous Dreams” does a distinct and honorable service to all that might constitute its readership. For, contributions that—prior to their election in this lean little volume—enjoyed wider circulation appear beside contributions lesser-known, & lesser-read. A widened demographic is thus afforded it; and when taken together, the (comparatively) more common works seem like cornerstones, or “root notes” on which its “deep cuts” sweetly harmonize. To be counted among the prior category is Ginsberg’s “History of [the] Jewish Socialist Party in America,” — which was anthologized and reprinted numerous times throughout the years (including in Ginsberg’s own “Airplane Dreams: Compositions from Journals,” published in 1968) [See TMB Item #5102; #4427]. The lesser-known works like “Two Dreams of Jack Kerouac,” a work both misty with intrigue & studded with insight, and the equally aethereal “Dream Archives” speak to the dynamic outlined above. Equally at home in the libraries of practicing scholars as it is in the coat pocket of the initiate, or enthusiast). The full list of contributions reads as follows: [1] “History of Jewish Socialist Party in America”; [2] “Texas Power Apocalypse”; [3] “Ambiguous Guru, Nervous Student”; [4] “Two Dreams of Jack Kerouac”; and [5] “Dream Archives.” Cover art by the great Beat-&-Beyond artist, Robert LaVigne. [ISBN: 84-87467-25-3]. Small-format softcover original: the First Printing of this elusive, early posthumous work by Allen Ginsberg. In strong fine condition with only minute shelf-wear to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers; minor-to-moderate rubbing, scattered, faint nick-indentations to same; else pristine. Fine.
