The Golden Dot

Fruita, CO: Lithic Press, 2022. First Printing. Softcover. “Ah, Micheline / it finally got to an unexpected one / Allen, Bill, your beloved Kerouac / my Anton, your Kaufman, Huncke / and so many others— / You died of natural causes / I was told today; / that you died on / a train from Frisco / You were funny / Called all poets and painters / who made it: Sell-outs! / Was it because you never made it? / I thought you made it / There you were / in tradition of the bohemians of old / The famous have all sold-out! / And the time you told me: / “I’m done with poetry; it's getting me nowhere / “To painting, that’s where I’m going!” / And cute Sesame Street pastels they were / … / Kerouac was kinder to you than I / I thought your poetry sucked” (“Ah Micheline…”, pg. 91). At last, the long-awaited “final” posthumously published work (prepared within his own lifetime, that is) book by Gregory Corso has appeared: “The Golden Dot,” — and man, was it worth it. Corso fiddled and fretted over the manuscript, knowing full well that it would be his “poetical last will and testament,” — something the irreplicable Raymond Foye (and later, Foye & the manuscript’s co-editor-aggregator, George Scrivani) note in the “Introduction” & “Editor’s Note” to the work, respectively. While the Introduction is the tremendous scholarly product of Foye alone, the Editor’s Note is co-authored by Foye and Scrivani, both. It speaks, with fidelity, to the manuscript’s history and origins. [ISBN: 978-1946-583-666]. Trade-format softcover original: the very First Edition of Corso’s final unpublished manuscript. In very fine condition, bordering on as new condition with only slightest shelf-wear to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers. Very Fine. [Item #5323]
