Broadside: Hymn

Portland, OR: The Yes! Press, 1971. Limited First Edition Thus. Single Sheet. "...So whatever plan you have for me/ Splitter of majesty/ Make it short/ brief/ Make it snappy/ bring me home to the eternal mother/ today/..." A beautiful broadside (9" x 11") featuring the title poem by Jack Kerouac, founding father of the Beat Generation. The sadly prophetic poem was originally published during 1959, again anonymously the day after Kerouac's death (October 22, 1969) & then in this edition of 325 (un-numbered) copies "with a printer's over-run of approximately 20 more copies" on July 27, 1971 (see Charters, A10, pgs. 33-34). Sometimes, as in Charters though not here, the poem is referred to as "Hymn- God Pray For Me." Colophon below poem states: "No. 13 in a series of free poems for your pleasure from Yes! Press...Published in cooperation with City Lights Books." The same year, City Lights included this work in Scattered Poems. A beautiful production with decorative border along left margin. A very rare Kerouac broadside in very fine, condition with only slight waving and a few faint crease-indentations faintly visible alongside aforementioned left margin, else pristine. Item will be shipped carefully rolled in a tube (unless customer inquires with us [as to potential alternate options] before purchasing. Very Fine. [Item #5445]
