Original Exhibition Poster
Paris, France: Denise Rene Rive Gauche Gallery, c. 1968. First Printing. Single Sheet. A large poster (appx. 22&3/4" x 36&1/4") announcing an exhibition of "Multiples" artworks by Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), the great Hungarian-born French artist who pioneered the "Op Art" movement of optical & geometric effects. The exhibition took place during November-December of an unspecified year which we artfully guess as the late 1960s, at the Denise Rene Rive Gauche Gallery on Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris. Rene (1913-2012) was a noted French gallerist who specialized in Kinetic, Geometric Abstract & Op Art. With reproduction of a bold, untitled artwork by Vasarely with his characteristic shapes & various hues of blue & green. A startlingly beautiful production on especially thick paper stock; & a rare piece of Vasarely-Rene ephemera. In relatively near-fine condition as inspected by our seasoned eyes, with mild browning, rubbing & some mostly faint creasing chiefly to blank white edges/margins (central image & information that takes up the vast majority of recto all-but-completely bright & intact with only a few faint creases near edges visible at close range); very slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; one very short, closed vertical tear at blank middle-left upper edge/margin; some very small bumps with miniscule loss of paper or surface paper at blank lower left, upper right edges. This item is too thick & delicate to be rolled & must be shipped flat to assure no damage, therefore extra shipping costs will be required. Near Fine. [Item #5545]
