Philadelphia, PA: The Westminster Press, 1970. First Edition. Hardcover. "What about pot? A frank and contemporary story of one girl's experience with the drug scene. It was a wonderful feeling to start all over again in a new place. Marihuana had been one of the problems between Chris and Mark, but there were many others. When Chris was tired of crying she transferred to another college- and really did forget him. And then, it all began again. What do you do when the people you love are on pot and you don't go along? What do you do about the guy you are going with, if you do get involved and he just wouldn't understand? What do you do when real tragedy strikes and the police start asking questions?" (from front flap) A cautionary novel for young adults about the menace of "marihuana" on the American college campus by Anne Emery (1907-1984), the noted educator & prolific writer whose popular novels & stories targeted teenage female readers. Eye-rollingly campy & alarmist from our current perspective, this cult classic was written & published at the end of the 1960s decade, & demonstrates the very-real "Generation Gap" that existed between young Americans & their preceding generations. Hardcover in unclipped first-issue dust jacket (with $4.50 price printed on front flap), first edition, first printing (though neither explicated at copyright page). An exemplary relic of the square "Establishment" in reaction to the youthful "pot" phenomenon at the later height of the counterculture; quite rare in this original form. Book in fine condition with very slight rubbing to front, back covers & spine (letters on spine completely bright & intact); slight wear, browning at edges & corners of same; several small areas of spot-fading near upper left corner of blank grey cloth front cover (which appear to be likely minor flaws as issued); mild rubbing, browning & moderate spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only moderate browning, spotting to blank white paste-downs & endpapers; a hint of browning at blank margins/edges of page leaves. Dust jacket fine with mild rubbing, scratching & very light browning to front, back covers, spine & flaps; slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same. Fine / Fine.
