Original Concert Poster: B.B. King, Moby Grape, Steve Miller Blues Band (February 26, 1967)
San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1967. First Edition. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 13&1/4" x 22&1/8") announcing a concert by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991), headlined by B.B. King (1925-2015, THE Blues Master Musician), along with Moby Grape & the Steve Miller Blues Band, during February 26, 1967 at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. The great American poster artist, designer, author & all-around polymath John H. Myers created the graphics & illustrations reproduced here, & "(c) 1967-John H. Myers" in facsimile hand-lettering & numbering is found just inside lower-middle right edge, at red background just below grey-black border (see image). According to the Talmudic scholarship we have consulted regarding this poster (which is similar in its depth to that of our underground comix from this period), this copy is a first printing, distinguishable from the second printing by the dimensions noted above. King, BG-52-OP-1, pg. 387. King writes: "The central image is a small group of people, one of whom is holding a smoke stack, the smoke from which surrounds the lettering. It was the last poster in the Fillmore series done by John H. Myers." (pg. 387) An exemplary Myers production in the psychedelic style that was galloping toward its apex later that year during the "Summer of Love," in its rarest contemporary form. See also item No. 5268, an earlier Graham/Myers poster. In our alert & experienced estimation, this poster is in relatively fine-verging-on-very-fine condition with only a few faint creases mostly at blank red margins/edges esp. upper margin/edge; one mild, non-penetrating, angled crease at upper left background of image just overlapping with top of "O" in "ONE" (central image is otherwise completely bright & substantially mint); a hint of wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; one tiny pinhole just below central upper edge (above "NC" in "FRANCISCO") with surrounding miniscule loss of surface red color; one very short horizontal, barely penetrating scratch-tear at upper right margin/edge, again with miniscule loss of surface red color. This item is too delicate to be rolled & must be shipped flat to assure no damage, therefore extra shipping costs will be required. Fine- Very Fine. [Item #5586]
