Farmington, ME: Alice James Books, 2021. First Edition. Softcover. "Who will say a few words now that the tomb is gone?/ Thunder in our sleep. The wrong way back/ to begin. Animal need for affection./ Anvil,/ or like two rooms that never touch,/ I arrive." (from "The Nightmare Touched its Forehead to my Lips," pg. 41) The second collection of poems by Andres Cerpa, a gifted young New York City-born poet who currently lives in Brooklyn. Trade-format softcover original, first edition, first printing as indicated by number sequence on copyright page. From the collection of Allen Tobias, assistant to Allen Ginsberg beginning in the 1960s, scholar, critic, all-around Man of Letters & our distinguished colleague at the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu)- who also lives in Brooklyn. Tobias has hand-written marginalia in blue ink on ten pages, mostly asterisks & vertical lines at blank areas indicating pages or passages of importance; & in three instances (pgs. 45, 83 & blank rear endpaper) substantive scholarly-biographical notes & Cerpa's name spelled differently, with notations. While marginalia is usually not desirable to collectors, in this case it enriches the reader's insight & appreciation, coming from such a learned, kindred source. In no instance is the printed text obscured or illegible. A rewarding collectible from this up-&-coming American poet, with distinguished provenance & helpful marginalia therefrom. In very fine condition with only a touch of rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; a few tiny bumps, creases at/near edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with marginalia noted above; tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #5737]
