Broadside: "Poem for Dante" with: Artwork
London, England: Tangerine Press, 2017. Limited First Edition. Sheets in Envelope. "Dante, baby, the Inferno / is here now. / I wish you could see / it. For some time / we've had the power to / blow up the earth / and now we're finding / the power to leave / it. but most will have to / stay and / die..." (first ten+ lines) A broadside (appx. 6 & 5/8" x 9 & 7/8") with the 1971 title poem by Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), the great American cult poet & author who probed the seamy & sodden sides of urban life with inimitable horror & humor. Below the poem is this statement: "Printed letterpress June, 2017 by The Tangerine Press / in an edition of 176 copies. This is copy: (hand-numbered in bold red ink) 22." An exemplary TP production, this broadside is one component of a package that includes a sheet (same dimensions as broadside above) with letterpress reproduction of an illustration of a classically disheveled Bukowski, with a drink in one hand & a cigarette in another, by the acclaimed Dutch-born artist Christoph Mueller (b. 1958). Additionally, a publisher's colophon card describes this edition in detail. The three sheets are housed in an envelope with gold-embossed lettering & graphics at recto. A beautiful production; an outstanding Bukowski rarity. All components & envelope in very fine condition with only a few tiny bumps, faint creases at some edges & corners; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #5880]
