Greece

New York, NY: Viking Press, 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. "The timeless beauty of Greece, its inexplicable magic, and its magnetic charm are effectively captured in the drawings by Anne Poor- and in the evocative prose of Henry Miller. "Since writing The Colossus of Maroussi, on my return from Greece in 1940," Says Henry Miller, "I have never written another line about Greece and probably would not now had I not happened upon these colored drawings by Anne Poor. A glance at these vivid impressions of hers and I felt as if I were reliving my stay in Greece." With renewed inspiration Miller explores the diverse elements of Greece, its mystery, vigor, and warmth, in a text that is the perfect poetic accompaniment to the pictures." (front flap) A collaboration between Henry Miller (1891-1980), the great American writer whose earlier works were influential precedents for the Beat Generation, & Anne Poor (1918-2002), the acclaimed American artist most noted for the documentary artworks she created as an official correspondent in the U.S. Army during the Second World War.
