ISBN: 0330341243
London, England: Picador, 1995. Uncorrected Proof Copy. Softcover. "With My Education: A Book of Dreams William S. Burroughs pushes on into new territory, once again questioning the reality structure. Dreams have always been a rich source of imagery in Burroughs' work and in this book they are a direct and powerful force. Hundreds of dreams- intense, vivid, visionary- form the spiralling core of a unique and haunting journey into perception. Exploring and embodying burroughs' provocative ideas on writing, painting, consciousness and creativity, My Education is profoundly personal, and may be as close to a memoir as we will see." (from back cover) The second-to-last book-length work published during the lifetime of William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), the foremost Beat-&-Beyond literary & cultural icon & the very Patron-Presence of our Third Mind Books enterprise. As WSB told this writer myself, "The best dreams are the ones you're not in," as he inscribed & signed my then-new first American edition of this work (see my article, "Back at the Pond: A Visit with William S. Burroughs," on our site & as a contribution to item No.s 1446, 1447, 3621). Offered here is the pre-publication "Uncorrected Proof Copy" (front cover) of the first UK edition, trade-format softcover in black-&-white illustrated wrappers incl. detail of Charles Burns' wonderfully macabre portrait of WSB, unique to the UK edition, at front cover. With "UK Publication Date: 25 August 1995" stated at back cover (a date later during the same year as the first American edition), first (actually pre-first) printing as indicated by number sequence at copyright page. Shoaf, Section I, No. 87(c), pg. 63. From the collection of Kevin Ring, editor & publisher of, & contributor to, Beat Scene magazine & many other indispensable productions (many available here), & our good friend in the UK. An essential late WSB collectible in an especially rare form & with distinguished provenance. In very fine condition with a touch of rubbing, mild browning, faint scratching & occasional spotting to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; very slight rubbing & mild spotting to edges of text block. Interior very fine with just a hint of browning to blank white inner covers & page leaves (the latter mostly at blank margins/edges); a few tiny bumps at corners, lower side edges of a few leaves.
