London, England, UK: Tangerine Press, 2023. Limited First Edition. Sewn Wrappers. "He took some room with another gentleman. It was a long time ago. My brother he went crazy." "The Medics will look after your brother. We are interested in the other uh gentleman. Could you describe him?" "Well, Inspector, remember a young cop whistling 'Annie Laurie' down cobble stone streets eating an apple twirling his club? One very calm October. Then he sat down on a bench which he shouldn't have done really being on duty. You look across the playground with a telescope you can watch. It was a long time ago but not too far to walk. Mrs. Murphy's rooming house remember? There it is on a corner just ahead red brick house and from the attic window you look across the playground of the orphanage with a telescope you can watch the boys at tall black windows of the dormitory. Ah yes here we are." (from first section, unpaginated) A semi-cut-up short story by William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), Founding Father of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond, among the foremost literary & cultural figures of all time, & the Patron-Icon of our very enterprise. This story was originally submitted by WSB as a contribution to a never-published journal being gathered by Iain Sinclair (b. 1943), the British author & filmmaker, & his associates during 1963; & is here published for the first time, preceded by an introduction & followed by two WSB-related essays by Sinclair, each preceded by vintage images of WSB in Tangier & his later home in Lawrence, Kansas. The story by WSB itself is printed in a special three-panel fold-out section. Large chapbook-format softcover in red wrappers with red thread sewn binding, a beautiful & exemplary production by our good friend Michael Curran's Tangerine Press. One of 200 un-numbered copies (of a total edition of 250) printed in December 2023 per colophon. A most desirable, brand-new-yet-vintage WSB collectible! In as-new, substantially mint condition inside & out. As New. [Item #6082]
