London, England: Tangerine Press, 2024. Numbered Limited Edition. Hardcover. 'Signed' by Mick Guffan (w/Guffan Signature on "Signature Scraps" Tipped-in w/Volume, as noted). “A little one’s / reflection in a window. / inside— / my view (out) / the gentle, bright and beautiful magic / of it all. / Good job for the child / and his mother (thank you, Sun) / they cannot witness the / internal scene— / an impostor sweating in a chair / (fear is the key) / an empty glass / and the cat, lolling on Floorboards / leg raised / graceful, beautiful / tongue licking— / all this / not including / the mid-afternoon / thoughts and myths / of a certain / Michael Seamus / O’Guffeenan / he of a quaint / ‘little town harbour’ / now very much hold up / in the London Borough of Wandsworth / and yes / that is beautiful too” ("How Beautiful It Is,” the final poem in this collection). “Dread Guesser” is yet another excellent excavatory work by the late Mick Guffan (1953-2006) to be commendably put before the public by Michael Curran’s Tangerine Press. Guffan has received more and more recognition as of late, with an honorable mention even in the UK’s premier left-wing newspaper, The Guardian, in which UK author Howard Cunnel writes: “The former taxi driver, airplane cleaner, carpenter and poet Mick Guffan may be a ghost or a pseudonym, or a fabrication. Either way, he is elusive." Elusive, indeed: if not for the dutiful work of Tangerine Press, Guffan—half-part Basho, half-part Bukowski—might ruefully be swept into the storm drains of history.” Hardcover “handbound in boards by / Tangerine Press of New Malden,” per colophon: No. 7/50 numbered copies with “Signature Scraps” (featuring Guffan’s signature, as implied). Guffan signature (on newspaper scrap, in square brown envelope & tipped into volume at RFEP) in thin, black pen ink, reads: “Mick Guffan.” In very fine condition, essentially as new with only slightest shelf-wear to fine-edges & corners, else pristine. Very Fine. [Item #6345]
