Shivers VII

ISBN: 9781587673771
Baltimore, MD: Cemetery Dance Publications, 2013. Limited First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by editor Richard Chizmar; & with signed color hand-drawing by Glenn Chadbourne. "Shivers VII contains more than 100,000 words of chilling fiction from more than two dozen of today's most popular authors of horror and suspense including Stephen King, Clive Barker, Graham Masterton, Ed Gorman, Bill Pronzini, Lisa Tuttle, Kaaron Warren, Del James, Lisa Morton, Roberta Lannes, Scott Nicholson, Bev Vincent, Brian James Freeman, Norman Prentiss, and many others. Of special note to collectors: "Weeds" by Stephen King was originally published in Cavalier in May 1976 and in Nugget in April 1979, but has not been reprinted since and has never appeared in any of his collections. "The Departed" by Clive Barker was originally published as "Hermione and the Moon" in The New York Times on October 30, 1992. Featuring original dark fiction with a handful of rare reprints, Shivers VII is available only from Cemetery Dance Publications." (front flap) The seventh compendium of spine-tingling stories in the horror-fantasy genre by such eminences as Clive Barker (see our item No. 7652), Stephen King, Graham Masterton (who as a teenager was mentored by William S. Burroughs, see our presentation "The Cut-Up Life of WSB" on our carousel) & many others. Compiled & edited by Richard Chizmar (b. 1965), the esteemed & prolific author, editor & publisher of Cemetery Dance magazine & publications including this series. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket, first edition as stated at copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon. One of 750 copies (this copy un-numbered) signed by Chizmar in bold hot-pink ink at recto special second leaf. At recto third leaf (shorter title page), the acclaimed artist Glenn Chadbourne (b. 1959), who has famously illustrated many books & magazines for King et al., has hand-drawn (or just possibly impressed an ultimately skillful block print of) a surreal color image of an eye with a plant blooming out of its pupil (likely referring to King's story herein), below which he has hand-written his bold signature in black ink: "Glenn/Chadbourne." We have seen no comparables to this apparently singularly unique copy- perhaps Chizmar or Chadbourne's own. A rich & rewarding King-&-Co. collectible in what may be its singularly rarest-among-the-rarest contemporary form. Book in very fine condition with only very slight bleeding of Chadbourne illustration & signature onto blank verso of leaf (what of it?), otherwise appearing substantially mint inside & out. Dust jacket very fine with only slight rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; a hint of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same & flaps. Very Fine / Very Fine.
