London, England: Aloes Books, 1972. Limited First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Jeff Nuttall. A very rare & riveting work by Jeff Nuttall (1933-2004), a key figure in the roiling counterculture of the UK during the 1960s. Involved in many arts & endeavors, he is best-known to Beat Generation devotees for his self-published underground literary journal, My Own Mag, featuring many important contributions by William S. Burroughs. Issues of this legendary (& legendarily fragile) Mimeo-Revolution era classic are now prized among collectors. This item is one of his own works, an exemplar of his mixed, anarchic style with rough-looking columns of text, illustrations often overlapping them, etc. One of a limited edition of 25 lettered copies (out of a total edition of 525 copies) signed by Nuttall. The letter "q" appears in heavy font on the envelope in which the chapbook is contained, present here. On the limitation page, it is written that "...There is a limited edition, lettered a-z, of 25 copies signed by the author." Below this is the number 16 in heavy font, right next to which is Nuttall's signature. While "q" is the 17th letter in the alphabet, the above refers to "25 copies" so in this appropriately anarchic, possibly mistaken system "q" may correspond to 16. A quintessential Jeff Nuttall collectible, in very fine condition. Book near mint with only the slightest spotting to side edge; envelope also very fine with only very light rubbing to surfaces, very mild wear to edges & corners, very mild creases at edges & corners, esp. top left corner. Very Fine in Very Fine Envelope. [Item #1863]
