Prelude to International Velvet Debutante

Milwaukee, WI: Great Lakes Books, 1967. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. A rare, early publication by Gerard Malanga, post-Beat countercultural poet & a key member of Andy Warhol's factory group in NYC during the zenith of the Pop-Art psychedelic '60s. This item is strongly linked with that legendary milieu, as it is noted on the copyright & credit page: "Both Gerard Malanga and International Velvet Debutante are superstars in Andy WARHOL's THE CHELSEA GIRLS."(a well-known Warhol cult film) Poem composed & dated August 1966 at the Hotel Chelsea, NYC, that (in) famous magnet for artists, writers & bohemians especially during that era. Aesthetically, by association & in its substance a quintessential relic of a truly "far-out" time & place. In relatively fine condition for such a fragile item, with only moderate rubbing & browning to covers; mild creasing, chipping, fading to all cover edges, corners & spine; staples in process of rusting. Interior, including original silver sticker at lower right edge of title page, in fine condition with only mild browning to edges of pages, light bleeding impression of silver sticker onto verso of front cover-endpaper.
