Zap Comix No. 4

San Francisco, CA: Apex Novelties/The Print Mint, 1969. Second Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This fourth number of the iconic series of underground comix features the work of Robert Crumb, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, S. Clay Wilson & introduces Spain Rodriguez & Robert Williams. A notoriously over-the-top issue even to Zap standards, it stirred legal troubles when originally published. Crumb's "Joe Blow" for example is a satirical treatment of incest. This appears to be the second printing according to our research of the extensive Talmudic comix scholarship. There is no copyright reference on inside front cover, characteristic of only the first two printings, but the top of two staples is not quite located where authorities claim it should be on first printings. A landmark of free expression gone berserk, its impact still rippling across our art & culture, in its second-rarest form. Truly for adult collectors only. In relatively fine condition, approximately equivalent to a 6.0 grade per Fogel's, CGC, etc.: Mild rubbing, creasing & discoloration of front, back covers; vertical crease along spine & tiny horizontal creases emanating therefrom onto spine edges of covers. Interior fine except for browning of just-above-newspaper quality pages esp. margins & edges effecting inner front & back covers; but pages not brittle & with barely any acidic scent. Fine.
