Brother, Can You Spare $1 for the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers?

San Francisco, CA: The Rip Off Press, 1978. Second Printing. Stapled Wrappers. The fourth number of the iconic trio's (& Fat Freddy's cat, of course) stoned adventures in the now-classic underground comix series. Written by Gilbert Shelton, & co-illustrated by him & Dave Sheridan. Among the episodes in this issue is the very lengthy saga of "The 7th Voyage of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers: A Mexican Odyssey." Originally published in 1975, this is the second printing of 1978, as indicated by the reference to "$1" cover price in the title. The first printing asked if you could spare seventy-five cents, an alternate second printing quotes no cover price & the third printing has a $1.25 cover price, according to established scholarship. An important collectible for the adult Freak aficionado, in its second-rarest form. In relatively good to very good condition, approximately equivalent to a 4.0 grade per Fogel's, CGC, etc.: Moderate rubbing, creasing & discoloration of front, back covers; mostly closed approx. 3&1/4" tear, open slightly at approx. lowest 1/2", at top spine edge of front cover separating front cover from top of two staples; closed tear continues horizontally-downward across front cover approx. 2&3/4" slightly effecting word "Welfare" in sign above door & sixth panel of episode on inner front cover; open part of tear noted above effecting very small approx. 1/4" area of back cover spine edge; mild soiling to white margins of back cover. Interior fine except for browning of just-above-newspaper quality pages esp. margins & edges effecting inner front & back covers; but pages not brittle & with barely any acidic scent. Good/Very Good.
