New York, NY: Vehicle Editions/A. Levitt, 1971. Limited First Edition. Softcover. A volume with the title poem by Ted Berrigan (1934-1983), the canonical New York School-Beat influenced poet with his own inimitable style. The poem is sub-titled & dated February 18, 1971; & is dedicated to "Joe," who is his friend the legendary poet-artist Joe Brainard (1942-1994). The poem was written during a train ride on the date noted according to legend, it has the momentum & rambling quality of the poet's musings during such a journey. With front cover illustration by Brainard. As noted on colophon, this is one of 1500 copies of the first edition, 26 of which were numbered & signed hardcovers, the remaining 1474 un-numbered & unsigned softcovers as here. A rare Berrigan classic. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing of front, back covers & spine; tiny bump-creases at corners of covers; a few tiny scuff-markings & one angled thin marking across most of width (probably not a remainder mark) at lower edge of text block. Interior very fine with only tiniest bumps at upper & lower corners of a few page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #2643]
