Routine Disruptions

Minneapolis, MN: Coffee House Press, 1998. First Printing. Softcover. Signed (Twice) & Inscribed by Kenward Elmslie to Ken & Ann Mikolowski, co-founders of Detroit's visionary Alternative Press. John Ashbery once wrote that Elmslie's poetry is like "...a mad scientist who has swallowed the wrong potion in his lab and is desperately trying to get his calculations on paper before everything closes in." (from Introduction). This copy of Kenward Elmslie's "Routine Disruptions," a new-&-selected compilation, is perhaps our most distinguished Elmslie offering yet. It is from the collection of Ken & Ann Mikolowski, co-founders of Detroit's visionary Alternative Press, publishers & friends of many Beat Generation/"Black Mountain"/"New York School"-related authors, and contains a full-page artwork-collage inscription on the front-facing endpaper (see photo). It contains cut pieces of glittery, glossed red & silver paper that float around the part of the signature mentioning Ken & Ann by name: "FOR A + K (with multicolored illustrations inside the bubble-style letters) / "secret / potato / 4 / x / 4..." / Love, / Kenward / Columbus Day / '98 / Calais." The book is additionally signed in black ink below the poet's name on the title page: "Kenward Elmslie." Book in very fine condition with only slightest shelf-wear throughout. Very Fine.
