Flint, MI: Bamberger Books, 1987. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Signed with Original Postcard Collage by Kenward Elmslie. From the Collection of Ken & Ann Mikolowski, founders of Detroit's visionary "Alternative Press." "If you like the idea of Ma and Pa Kettle meeting Raymond Roussel, then CITY JUNKET is your jug of Pernod. Its primitive country cousins and surrealistic city slickers draw us into a world that is flawlessly realized and stunningly displaced. It is a world of hilarious nightmare, of Kafka in technicolor, of an irrational Comedy of Errors catapulted into a bent future. The pace is fast and the language is spunky. Reading CITY JUNKET you may find yourself surrounded by exclamation points six feet high." (Ron Padgett, from back cover). First published in a similarly signed & lettered edition by Adventures in Poetry in 1972, this subsequent edition published in 1987 is made special by the original collage artwork by Kenward Elmslie facing the colophon page, each 26 lettered copies having their own individual artwork. This particular collage artwork exists nowhere else except at the rear of this copy. From the collection of Ken & Ann Mikolowski, close friends of Kenward Elmslie and publishers of many Beat Generation, "Black Mountain," and "New York School" authors. It is likely they obtained this copy from the poet directly. Book in very fine condition with only slightest rubbing to front, back covers; minute bump-crease to bottom right-hand corner of front cover; tiniest bump to bottom left-hand corner of back cover; minimal shelf-wear at all fine-edges. Very Fine. [Item #2949]
