Skola Meho Zivota: Kniha Snu (First Czech Edition of My Education: A Book of Dreams

ISBN: 8072071904
Prague, Czech Republic: Volvox Globator, 1998. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. My Education: A Book of Dreams was the second-to-last book-length work published during the lifetime of William S. Burroughs (followed that same year, 1995, with the first trade edition of Ghost of Chance). This record of WSB's late dream recollections is of very special significance to this writer- It was one of the books, newly published at the time, which I brought with me to my visit with WSB during February of 1995. Before inscribing it, he told me: "The best dreams are the ones you're not in." (See my article, "Back at the Pond: A Visit with William S. Burroughs," in the "Topics" section of our "Newsletter" department). This is the first Czech-language edition, published three years after the first American edition noted above, the year after WSB's death (1998). Translated from English into Czech by Martin Silar. A beautiful hardcover production in dust jacket with graphics & treatment of a late photograph of WSB unique to this edition. From the collection of Jim McCrary, a poet & educator who resides in Lawrence, Kansas, where he was a friend & associate of WSB during his later years there; a member of Burroughs Communications led by James Grauerholz. McCrary was particularly involved in this work, the first to be cited by WSB in his acknowledgments (included in translation in this edition): "My thanks to Jim McCrary, who over a period of several years carefully transcribed these texts from many hastily jotted notes on scraps of paper and index cards and pages typed with one hand." A very rare & desirable WSB collectible, not referenced in the bibliographies, with particularly important association & provenance. Book in very fine condition with only very slight spotting to side edge of text block; moderate spotting to upper edge of same. Interior very fine, with pencil notation of foreign price near upper right corner of front endpaper; otherwise substantially mint. Dust jacket in very fine condition with only mild rubbing & sparse scratching to front, back covers & spine; very light wear, tiny bumps & creasing at corners & thin edges of same along with inner flaps. Very Fine / Very Fine. [Item #3020]
