George Tysh was a founding member and one of the prime architects of the Detroit Artists' Workshop. Before the Workshop existed, Tysh was part of a group of students belonging to Monteith College, an experimental college in Detroit on the campus of Wayne State University. "Professor Otto Feinstein and other Monteith professors converted an old Edwardian house on Second Street into a student hang out. Monteith and WSU poets and artists gathered there and formed a loose framework in the early ’60s for the future AWS; Robin Eichleay, George Tysh, Doug Larkins, Charles Moore, Chuck Logan, Timothy Phalen and Ellen Phalen. The student center became a place to gather and discuss ideas. A mimeograph machine was set up in the house, where students collaborated on the Monteith Journal." A few years later in 1964, Tysh co-founded the Artists' Workshop Press with Robin Eichele, Jim Semark and John Sinclair. This is a later collection of Tysh's work, first published in 1985. As of this writing, Tysh is still active as a poet and educator, serving as adjunct faculty at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit. Signed in blue pen ink by George Tysh at title page. Signature reads: "george tysh / 4/26/90."
