Sumac: An Active Anthology, Vol. 3, No. III, Spring 1971

Fremont, MI: The Sumac Press, 1971. First Printing. Softcover. This number of the respected poetry journal edited by Michigan eminences Dan Gerber & the late legend Jim Harrison features contributions by Russell Banks (who would go on to become a most successful novelist); the profound & prolific Clayton Eshleman; the late, great Donald Hall; the award-winning David Ignatow (whose life span, I am compelled to note, coincided almost precisely with that of William S. Burroughs...); the venerable, Pulitzer Prize-winning W.S. Merwin & many, many more in this particularly abundant issue. With photographs of some of the contributors & other subjects, mostly taken by Gerber, interspersed throughout; reviews; etc. An essential collectible collection of great American world-class poetry. In very fine condition with only very slight rubbing & scratching to front, back covers & spine; one long, mostly shallow & thin vertical indent beginning near upper right corner of front cover (almost certainly a production flaw along with a few much shorter indents along upper right edge of same); one short, shallow series of two horizontal scratches along lower-mid side edge of text block; very small, vertical line of soiling at upper left area of same. Interior very fine with only very small bump-creases at upper corners of most page leaves. Very Fine. [Item #3126]
