Clay Wilson & Lorraine Chamberlain to Charles & Pamela Plymell. Two collectibles, one quite rare & the other one-of-a-kind, relating to Charles Plymell. As poet, prose writer, editor & printer-publisher over nearly six decades, Plymell is a hilariously disturbing (disturbingly hilarious?) Legendary Literary Outlaw. (1) Mindeater: Altes Land, an anthology of Plymell's poems translated into the German language, published in 2009. Among the works is "Song Fur (For) Neal Cassady," about his famous partner in pranks- roommate who was a key inspiration of the Beat Generation, dedicated to Neal's son John Cassady. On the title page, Plymell has hand-written his signature in blue ink. Between last page & inner back cover, we found & have kept a thick-stock sheet with reproductions of recent photos of Plymell on both sides. One side depicts him in sagely repose at his home with many of his personal collection of volumes in the background (this writer had the privilege of visiting him in this very room). The other side depicts a thoughful Plymell, also at his home, with fireplace & a mounted rifle over a doorway in the background. We believe that this sheet was not part of this production, but added generously by Plymell, from whom we directly obtained it, along with: (2) An original Holiday greeting package sent during December 2009 from S. Clay Wilson, the iconic Comix-&-Beyond illustrator, & his wife Lorraine Chamberlain, to Charles Plymell & his wife, Pamela Beach Plymell. The two couples are long-standing friends & collaborators. The package consists of two oblong photo-greeting cards, one of which features two images of the Wilsons, Lorraine in Santa hat & S. Clay in a Linconesque top hat, with the hand-written greeting, in bold silver felt-tip ink, just below printed wishes for a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year: "and thank you!/ Wilson/ &/ Lorraine." We don't know which of them wrote this greeting, S. Clay was injured about a decade ago & there are unfortunate rumors that he has been severely compromised ever since. The other card offers Season's Greetings for 2010 & has no hand-writing, but a photo depicts a figure of one of S. Clay's devilish cartoon characters among the holiday kitsch. The cards are contained in their original mailing envelope, neatly opened at top, with senders' & addressees' information hand-written by Wilson or Chamberlain. A very desirable bundle for the Plymell & Wilson collector. (1) in very fine condition, large chapbook format in stapled wrappers with only very light, sparse rubbing & a few faint, short creases to front, back covers & stapled spine; very light wear & a few miniscule bumps to edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves. Loose photo sheet with only very light, barely discernable curving to one side where it was tucked along spine; tiny amount of wear at edges & corners. (2) in very fine condition with only mild crease along surface of one photo-card (the one without hand-writing); usual but relatively light creasing & rubbing to mailing envelope from its transit & opening.
