This number of the venerable literary journal, chiefly edited by Robert W. Lewis, is sub-titled "Some Others: Contemporary American Poetry" & features the essay "Psyche's New Form: Eshleman's Myth of Transformation" by Paul Christensen. Clayton Eshleman is of course the acclaimed, award-winning poet, translator & scholar who has long resided here in Michigan near us, our friend & mentor. Christensen is a prolific poet & critic who has written particularly extensively on the works of Eshleman & Charles Olson. Eshleman & the legendarily influential journal Sulfur which he founded & edited are mentioned among other poets in several of this issue's essays, including by Sherman Paul (also the author of a Preface to this collection) & Marjorie perloff. On the first, title page, Eshleman has hand-inscribed & signed: "For Jim Perrizo/ (signed) Clayton eshleman." James Perrizo (1944-2006) was an intensely devoted collector & scholar of the Beat-&-Beyond, an acquaintance of Eshleman, & an especially completist collector of writings by or as in this case about him. Other subjects of this lengthy themed issue include Robert Creeley, Robert Duncan, Gary Snyder & many other of the most major contemporary American poets. With notes on contributors, etc. Large-format softcover original. A rich, bountiful production, & a very rare Eshleman-related collectible. In very fine condition with only very light rubbing, scratching & occasional tiny spotting to front, back covers & spine; very mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; one shallow scratch-gouge at lower edge of text block. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves; tiny bump-dimples at lower edges of many of same as a result of text block scratch-gouge noted above. Very Fine. [Item #3346]
