Jimmy & Lucy's House of "K" No. 8, January 1988

Berkeley & Oakland, CA: The House of "K" 1988. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. Signed by Clayton Eshleman. This second-to-last number of the short-lived but significant mimeo-zine literary journal edited & with contributions by Benjamin Friedlander & Andrew Schelling features a lengthy, erudite essay by Clayton Eshleman, the venerable American poet, translator & educator who has long resided in Michigan near us, our friend & mentor. The subject is Paul blackburn (1926-1971), the great Black-Mountain-School-&-Beyond poet & translator. As noted in a preamble, this essay "...serves as part of the introduction to a selection of Blackburn's uncollected poems..." (The Parallel Voyages, 1987). By, about & for dedicated poets, this is an intense work of analytical scholarship. On the first contents page, at upper right blank margin, Eshleman has hand-written his signature. Also in this issue are reviews of two novels by Zen Buddhist-Beat icon Philip Whalen & a volume of selected poems by the great Beat Generation- Black Mountain School poet John Wieners, written by William Corbett; review-essays by editors Friedlander & Schelling; & much more. Reproductions of benchmark-rubbings from Kings Canyon, California on front & back covers. A particularly scarce issue in this small & most collectible series, especially with the signature of one of its most distinguished contributors, Clayton Eshleman. In near-fine condition with very light rubbing to front, back covers & stapled spine; lightest wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same; medium-to-small coffee(?!) stains at upper spine & nearby covers, back cover, not effecting text or illustrations; very slight rubbing & occasional spotting to edges of text block. Interior fine with upper stains noted above bleeding onto last four page leaves & inner front cover, only the latter covering a bit of text without effecting legiblity; very small bumps at corners of some page leaves. Near Fine. [Item #3368]
