Ann Arbor, MI: Caliban, 1989. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Diane Wakoski. The sixth number of the literary journal published here in Ann Arbor during 1986-1995, revived online in 2010, edited & with a contribution by Lawrence R. Smith. Featuring the poem "Rosenkavalier" by Diane Wakoski, the acclaimed, prolific poet who has long resided in Michigan. Wakoski has hand-written her signature with characteristic vertical doodles next to her printed name above the title (pg. 152). Also in this issue are contributions by master "Shard" poet & publisher John Bennett; the great Beat-&-Beyond poet-artist Ira Cohen; Gene Frumkin, Beat Generation-San Francisco renaissance legend Michael McClure & many others. With a small portfolio of photographs titled "TRANSPORTED" by Robert Turney; another lengthier section of illustrations with texts by various writer-artists titled "A Practical Utopia Notebook"; an essay on which is ostensibly written by Caliban himself (the journal's mascot-channeling of the spirit of Prospero's feral sidekick in Shakespeare's The Tempest) & a section titled "Contributors' Advice, or Free Speech Corner, or the Blind Assemblage (being the unedited comments of contributors on almost anything)"; contemporary ads including for the late, original then-single Borders Book Store & Shaman Drum Bookshop, the long-gone Ann Arbor institution of our late, revered Third Mind Mentor Karl Pohrt; etc. Front cover color reproduction of artwork by Hyun-Il Ahn ("AFTERIMAGE 89-12"). A rich & outstanding issue in this most collectible series, especially with Wakoski's signature. In very fine condition with only lightest rubbing to glossy front, back covers & spine; very mild wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of same. Interior very fine with only tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #3410]
