Ostheim/Rhon, Germany: Engpol Medien, 1998. First Edition. Softcover. Inscribed & signed to Mary Beach Pelieu by Peter Engstler. A volume of prose by German writer-publisher Peter Engstler, published in Germany with all text in German. On the title page, Engstler has hand-inscribed & signed in English: "For Mary Beach Pelieu/ Best Wishes/ 20.10.03(October 10, 2003)/ (signed) Peter Engstler." Mary Beach (1919-2006) & her husband Claude Pelieu (1934-2002) were avant-garde writers & artists who knew & collaborated with many figures of the Beat Generation-&-beyond including William S. Burroughs. Mary's daughter, Pamela Beach Plymell, is the wife & collaborator of Charles Plymell, the poet-printer-publisher & legendary Literary Outlaw. This item was obtained by us from our good friends, the Plymells. Engstler has published & translated into German from English works by Plymell, Pelieu & their circles including such important Beat-related writers as Ray Bremser. Also included is a developed photograph (remember those?) depicting Engstler (third from left) in unidentified company at table. The leftmost person in the photo appears to be Pamela. A literary rarity with very desirable association, provenance & ephemera. In very fine condition with only a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; tiny bumps at corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially as-new inside & out. Photograph in very fine, substantially mint condition. Very Fine. [Item #3438]
