A bilingual collection of poems by Alain Jegou (1948-2013), the acclaimed French poet described here as "...a fisherman-poet with a Rabelaisian style, deeply attached to Brittany, North American Indians, the Beat Generation and physical action in general. (pg. 62) As noted on the same page, "Cash" was previously unpublished, "Drifting Away" & "Furtive Shadows" had been published only in German translation. All three works are issued in two consecutive sections, one in original French, the other in English translation by Eve Lerner; covers in the two languages & with reproduction of the same illustration. Oblong softcover original in sewn binding, part of the publisher's Collection La Frange Atlantique series. On front blank endpaper preceding the French section, Jegou has hand-written (as far as we can discern, not being literate in French): "Pour Pam et Charley Plymell,/ Les poemes, comme ombres furtives, d'une vie/ en derive, ou tout se paye cash/ Avec toutes mes amities./ (signed) Alain Jegou/ Jain. 2008." Charles Plymell is of course the great American poet, printer, publisher & all-around Legendary Literary Outlaw; Pamela Beach Plymell is his wife, co-publisher & collaborator (also great-niece of Sylvia Beach, daughter of Mary Beach & stepdaughter of Claude Pelieu). A beautiful production, obtained from the Plymells' library; a rich rarity with very significant association & provenance. In very fine condition with only very light wear & a few miniscule bumps at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; tiny bumps at upper corners of a few page leaves; otherwise substantially mint inside & out.
