Works: a quarterly of writing Vol. II No. I (Spring 1969)

New York, NY: AMS Press, Inc., 1969. First Printing. Softcover. Signed by Diane Wakoski. This early, vintage number of the literary journal co-edited & with contributions by John Hopper includes the poem "With Words" by Diane Wakoski, the venerable & prolific poet who has long resided in Michigan. Just below her printed name above the poem on page 26, Wakoski has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles, in blue ink. With more contributions of poetry & fiction, & a major section about contemporary small presses with essays by their respective editors-publishers, & checklists of publications. These include Russell Banks, prior to his fame as a novelist, about his Lillabulero Press, Inc.; Douglas Blazek & his Open Skull Press; the iconic American poet Robert Bly, about his imprint The Sixties Press; & co-editor Hopper's introduction. Also a section of reviews, all by Hopper. With contemporary ads, notes on contributors. A fascinating issue full of critical-historic-bibliographical information on a fertile literary period; & a desirable rarity in the early Wakoski canon. In near-fine condition with moderate-to-significant rubbing, scratching, browning, spotting & a few small marks to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & a few small bumps, creases & curls at edges & corners of same; moderate rubbing & spotting to edges of text block esp. upper edge. Interior very fine with only slight browning to inner covers & endpapers; tiny bumps at corners of some page leaves. Near Fine. [Item #3464]
