This vintage number of the literary journal edited & published by Charles Shahoud Hanna, & with guest editorship of Dr. William L. Kinter, features the poem "George Washington Slept Here" by Diane Wakoski, the acclaimed & prolific poet who has long resided in Michigan. Above her printed name & the title, Wakoski has hand-written her signature with characteristic series of vertical doodles in black ink (pg. 39). The same year (1967), this poem was published in one of Wakoski's earliest collections, The George Washington Poems. Also in this issue are contributions by Black Mountain School-&-Beyond poet Paul Blackburn; Black Mountain-Deep Image (the latter also the school associated with Wakoski) master Robert Kelly; Cage-ian chance-anarchist innovator Jackson Mac Low (in the form of a critical-methodical letter to Dr. Kinter); ethno-poetical pioneer Jerome Rothenberg & others. A very desirable collectible compilation; & an early rarity in the Wakoski canon enriched by her signature. In near-fine condition with moderate rubbing, browning & spotting to front, back covers & esp. spine; mild wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; moderate browning & spotting to edges of text block. Interior fine with staples (which bind interior, not covers & spine) in process of rusting with mild bleeding esp. at rear endpaper; very slight browning esp. to blank margins/ edges of page leaves; tiny bumps at corners of some of same.
